Job Description

Algolia is a fast growing company that helps users deliver an intuitive search-as-you-type experience on their websites and mobile apps. We provide a search API used by thousands of customers in more than 100 countries. Today, Algolia powers 1.5 Trillion searches a year – that’s 4 times more than Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Baidu and Yandex combined!

The Data team aims to help Algolia grow as an agile business. To achieve that, we are building a powerful and flexible Data Platforms, allowing every product team in the company to to collect, compose, and consume data.

To that end, we are looking for an Engineering Manager to join the team and help us scale our Data Platform. You will work on features and services that are critical for Algolia, from data pipelines ingesting very large amounts of logs from all our products to APIs that are relied upon to alert and charge customers based on their usage. You will also play a role in training, mentoring and leading team members.

Your role will consist of:

  • Help the team plan, execute and ship releases respecting timelines and high-quality development, working closely with the product and leadership teams
  • Hire, coach and mentor engineers to excel at their work and grow
  • Be a key contributor to the design, development, operation and deployment of all features of the Usage Platform processing pipelines and APIs
  • Be responsible for the quality and the robustness of the APIs and services
  • Improve engineering quality, processes and tooling
  • Work closely with the team’s Product Manager to help define the roadmap and assist internal stakeholders (other product teams) with releasing new products

You might be a fit if you have:

  • 2+ years in a managing/leading role
  • Designed and operated data pipelines with high volume and throughput
  • Experience designing data intensive applications leveraging relational (e.g. PostgreSQL) or NoSQL (e.g. Bigtable) databases
  • Experience designing new applications with reliability, operability, and availability in mind
  • Experience writing robust Go code
  • Experience with GCP (especially Bigtable/BigQuery), Kubernetes, and Terraform
